Kaluđerović Critiques Political Protection After Bošković’s Arrest
Following the arrest of former Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković, Slađana Kaluđerović, the Vice President of the Socialist People’s Party (SNP) and a member of the Montenegrin Parliament, expressed strong views regarding the accountability of public officials. Kaluđerović stated that no individual should be protected by their past roles or political affiliations.
Accountability Over Political Affiliation
Kaluđerović emphasized that if there are suspicions of criminal activities, institutions are obliged to act without political considerations. “Bošković must answer questions that have remained unanswered for years, but not in front of cameras or party gatherings, rather before the prosecutor’s office and the court,” she stated. She firmly rejected claims by the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) that his arrest constitutes political persecution. Instead, she characterized it as a necessary consequence of long-standing abuses of state resources and a prevailing sense of impunity that marked their governance.
The SNP leader criticized ongoing attempts by former officials to portray themselves as victims. “Those who have used the state as their personal bank for years are now trying to present themselves as martyrs, but the citizens of Montenegro no longer believe them,” Kaluđerović said. She further stated that the institutions are finally executing their duties without interference from party leadership or political pressure.
Justice Must Prevail
Kaluđerović’s comments signal a broader call for accountability within Montenegrin politics, as she urged the judicial authorities to thoroughly investigate every case, regardless of how high-profile the individuals involved may be. “The time for political protection of illicit actions and crime has passed,” she asserted, reinforcing her support for the work of judicial bodies.
The landscape of Montenegrin politics is shifting, with increasing demands for transparency and accountability. As institutions begin to operate independently, the SNP appears resolute in its commitment to uphold justice, challenging the narrative of victimhood propagated by the DPS.
This situation highlights a critical moment in Montenegro’s political environment, where the balance between power and accountability is being tested. Kaluđerović’s statements reflect a growing sentiment among citizens for a more responsible and transparent governance system.
