Emirates Ends A380 Service to Copenhagen, Expands Capacity with New Routes
Emirates has announced the conclusion of its Airbus A380 flights to Copenhagen Kastrup Airport (CPH) in Denmark, effective from May 31, 2026. This decision marks a significant shift in the airline’s operations, but it will not result in a reduction of capacity for travelers flying from Dubai International Airport (DXB). Instead, Emirates plans to enhance its service by replacing the single daily A380 rotation with two daily flights using smaller aircraft from its fleet.
The transition from the A380 to smaller twin-engine jets aims to cater to more connecting passengers in Dubai. With the new schedule, Emirates will provide increased flight options for travelers, allowing greater flexibility for those connecting through its main hub. The airline had only reintroduced the A380 on this route in January 2025, after a nearly five-year hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Flight Details and Capacity Changes
Initially, Emirates resumed its A380 service to Copenhagen after a long absence, with flights operating in a high-density two-class configuration. This setup included 58 lie-flat seats in Business Class and 557 seats in Economy Class, allowing for a total of 615 seats on each flight. The decision to bring back the A380 made Copenhagen the 21st European destination served by the superjumbo, highlighting the airline’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region.
With the upcoming change, Emirates will operate its daily flights to Copenhagen using both the Airbus A350 and the Boeing 777. The airline will primarily deploy the larger 777-300ER model, which accommodates 421 seats, alongside the 298-seat A350-900. This shift results in a total capacity of 719 seats per day in each direction, representing an increase of 16.91% compared to the A380’s capacity.
The first flight utilizing the new 569-seater configuration is set to commence next month, further illustrating Emirates’ strategic shift towards maximizing seat availability on its routes.
Operational Timings and Passenger Experience
Emirates has structured its flight schedule to optimize passenger convenience. The morning flight EK151 is scheduled to depart from Dubai at 07:30 local time, ensuring that passengers arriving on overnight flights have ample time for transfers. Arrival in Copenhagen is set for 12:30 local time, providing guests with an entire afternoon to explore the city.
Following a brief two-hour layover, flight EK152 will depart Copenhagen at 14:45, arriving in Dubai at 00:55 the following day. This timing allows for seamless overnight transit for passengers traveling onward from Dubai.
The shift away from the A380 to smaller aircraft reflects Emirates’ adaptability in a competitive aviation landscape. By maximizing the number of flights and adjusting its fleet, the airline aims to meet evolving passenger demand while retaining its commitment to service quality and connectivity.
As Emirates prepares to phase out the A380 from its Copenhagen operations, this change represents not just an end but a transition towards a more flexible and responsive strategy to enhance travel options for its customers.
