The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is set to initiate a roadshow in Abuja on Monday, aimed at encouraging participation from federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the forthcoming Inter-Agency Innovation Competition and Awards. With a total cash prize of N140 million, the competition seeks to enhance collaboration and strengthen Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem.

According to a press statement issued by NASENI, and signed by the Director of Information, New Media and Protocol, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, the roadshow will commence at the old Federal Secretariat in Area 1 and will make its way through the main Federal Secretariat at the Central Business District (CBD) in Abuja. The initiative is expected to reach various MDAs located in the vicinity, providing them with crucial information about the competition’s objectives and benefits.

The statement highlights that the roadshow aims to shed light on the importance of innovation for public servants in addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges. This is particularly pertinent to the federal government’s industrialization agenda. Staff from different MDAs will have the chance to interact directly with officials from the Inter-Agency Innovation Committee, participate in informative sessions, and learn how to submit their innovative ideas.

Dr. Olayode Olasupo, Chairman of the NASENI Inter-Agency Innovation Competition and Director of the Manufacturing Services Department, emphasized the importance of home-grown innovations in Nigeria’s pursuit of industrial development. He stated, “This can be realised by giving Nigerians, especially civil servants, opportunities to contribute towards the nation’s development.” He called on all MDAs to propose innovative solutions across various sectors such as health, agriculture, education, and infrastructure.

Dr. Olasupo further expressed the need to harness the talents of civil servants, stating, “We want to make sure talents in staff are not wasted, and we know that all MDAs have such staff in abundance.” He encouraged MDAs to embrace this opportunity to showcase the innovative ideas and creativity of their staff, which can drive technological advancement and foster a more prosperous Nigeria.

The competition aligns with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to utilize local talents to build a modern and industrialized nation. Dr. Olasupo concluded, “Together, we can unlock our nation’s potential through innovation in science, engineering, and technology. Join the movement by submitting entries.”

This initiative represents a significant step towards fostering a culture of innovation within Nigeria’s public service, and it highlights the commitment of NASENI and the federal government to enhance service delivery and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
