Timi Frank Calls for Action Against Security Chiefs Amid Rising Violence
Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dismiss the nation’s security chiefs amid escalating violence and killings across Nigeria. His comments follow a recent attack in Borno State, where suspected Boko Haram insurgents killed soldiers, highlighting the ongoing security crisis affecting the country.
Frank expressed grave concern over the continuous rise in insecurity, banditry, and kidnappings, calling the situation a national tragedy that demands immediate action from the government. He stated that Nigerians are being killed “like chickens” daily, which he believes indicates a collapse of the nation’s security structure under the current administration.
“The lives of our soldiers and police officers are at risk due to inadequate funding and insufficient equipment,” Frank remarked. He pointed out that despite significant budget allocations to the security sector, the resources often fail to reach those on the front lines or provide the necessary tools to combat the increasing threats.
The former APC official noted that these ongoing killings have attracted international scrutiny. He praised U.S. President Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz for their public condemnation of the violence against Nigerians, stating their advocacy has helped raise awareness among the political elite in Nigeria.
In a statement, he commended Trump for his moral stance and urged the U.S. government to pressure the Nigerian administration to release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Frank argued that it is unacceptable for the government to engage in negotiations with terrorists while holding peaceful citizens like Kanu in detention.
“This administration cannot continue to negotiate with terrorists while detaining innocent and peaceful Nigerians,” he asserted. He called on the international community to intervene and advocate for Kanu’s immediate release.
Frank also lauded activist Omoyele Sowore for his efforts in pushing for Kanu’s unconditional release. He emphasized the need to maintain strong relations between Nigeria and the United States, stating, “Nigeria has always maintained a cordial relationship with the United States. We will not allow any government or individuals to destroy that friendship.”
He criticized the Nigerian Senate for its response to Senator Cruz’s remarks regarding the killings of innocent Nigerians, calling their reaction a “disgrace and disappointment.” Frank argued that if the Senate had effectively executed its oversight responsibilities, Cruz would not have felt the need to highlight Nigeria as an example of violence and injustice.
He concluded by expressing disappointment in the National Assembly’s failure to advocate for justice and the protection of Nigerian citizens, suggesting that consistent oversight could have prevented the current state of insecurity. Frank’s call for action underscores the urgency for reform in Nigeria’s security framework as violence continues to pose a significant threat to the safety of its citizens.
