Rosie Routledge, a social media influencer known for her lifestyle content, has transitioned from life in Dubai to the Isle of Man. After living in the bustling Middle Eastern city for a year and a half, she found that the environment no longer aligned with her personal needs and values.

Routledge, who has amassed over 40,000 followers on Instagram and more than 20,000 on TikTok, shared her decision in a TikTok video that has sparked considerable engagement online. In her video, she articulated her challenges with the convenience of life in Dubai, stating that it contributed to feelings of isolation and depression.

Convenience and Isolation

Describing Dubai as “too convenient,” Routledge noted that the ease of access to services left her with little incentive to venture outside. Growing up on the Isle of Man, she was accustomed to a slower pace of life, where immediate deliveries were uncommon and trends took longer to arrive.

She remarked, “When I can get literally anything delivered to my doorstep in 20 minutes, I have no reason to leave the house.” This convenience, while beneficial in many ways, ultimately led her to go weeks without stepping outdoors, which she identified as detrimental to her mental health.

As she reflected on her time in Dubai, Routledge acknowledged that the initial excitement had diminished. She emphasized that her experience was personal and not a critique of those who choose to remain in the city. Social media reactions varied, with some users expressing disbelief at her perspective, while others from the Manx community offered support and welcomed her return.

Family and Fulfillment

Routledge also discussed the culture of comparison prevalent in Dubai, where material possessions and outward appearances often take center stage. She described a landscape dominated by luxury cars and high-end lifestyles, which contributed to her sense of disconnection.

One of the most significant factors in her decision to leave was her desire to be closer to family. “That’s the main reason I’m leaving, to be honest,” she shared. Despite her critiques of the city, she expressed gratitude for her experiences there, saying, “I don’t have a bad word to say about Dubai. I truly thank Dubai for what it has done for me.”

Now back on the Isle of Man, Routledge is re-establishing her life while continuing to connect with her audience online. She is in the process of opening a new beauty studio in Douglas, named @aura.iom, with recruitment for beauty therapists currently underway. The business is expected to launch later this year, marking a new chapter in her life.

Routledge sees this move as an opportunity to build a venture that reflects her values and allows her to spend more time with loved ones. As she settles back into island life, she remains dedicated to sharing her journey with her followers, embracing a lifestyle that prioritizes family and personal fulfillment.
