Tragic Death of Holly Hagan’s Sister Linked to MDMA Overdose

The sister of television personality Holly Hagan, Darci Rose Gibson, died from multi-organ failure following an MDMA overdose during a night out in Manchester. The 19-year-old’s death occurred as a result of complications stemming from the drug, which was confirmed through toxicology tests presented during an inquest at Manchester Coroner’s Court.

The inquest revealed that Darci consumed MDMA while out at the Warehouse Project nightclub, a popular venue in the city. Witnesses indicated that she mixed the drug into her drink during the night. On October 18, 2023, she suffered a cardiac arrest, prompting immediate medical attention and her subsequent transfer to Manchester Royal Infirmary. Despite the medical team’s efforts, she succumbed to complications two days later, passing away on October 20, 2023.

During the inquest, acting senior coroner Zak Golombeck outlined the circumstances surrounding her death. He confirmed that Darci had been at the nightclub when she suffered the cardiac event. According to Golombeck, “There was a suspicion at the time that she had taken illicit drugs. This was confirmed to the clinicians.” The coroner indicated that toxicology results revealed “high levels” of MDMA in her blood and urine.

Darci’s passing has left her family, including her sister Holly, deeply affected. Following the tragic event, Holly expressed her grief, stating that she was “traumatised” by the loss. She shared that Darci “passed away peacefully holding my hand surrounded by my family and her best friends,” highlighting the emotional impact of the tragedy on those close to her.

The provisional cause of death was classified as multi-organ failure due to an MDMA overdose, pending further investigations. The inquest was officially opened and subsequently adjourned, with the coroner emphasizing the importance of understanding the circumstances leading to Darci’s death.
