A wave of nostalgia is sweeping through the online snack market, as iconic lunchbox treats from the early 2000s are making a significant comeback. According to Just Eat’s annual trends report for 2025, there has been a marked increase in consumer spending on a variety of nostalgic snacks and beverages. This surge comes alongside a broader trend towards unique and culturally inspired food choices, influenced heavily by social media platforms.

The report highlights a striking rise in interest across non-traditional categories, including viral snacks and ready-to-drink cocktails. For instance, purchases of BuzzBallz cocktails skyrocketed by an impressive 1,055%, while Dubai chocolate saw an astonishing increase of 2,684%. Other notable products include Labubu dolls, which experienced an 850% growth, and retinol skincare products, which rose by 590%.

Return of Childhood Favorites

Cultural influences, particularly the nostalgia for childhood snacks, have shaped consumer habits significantly. The data reveals that approximately 32% of surveyed adults in the UK are inspired by trends from the 2000s, with 18% actively embracing retro snacks. Classic lunchbox staples such as Cheestrings and Dairylea Lunchers saw substantial order increases of 143% and 47%, respectively. These snacks are not just relics of the past; they are redefining contemporary eating habits among a new generation.

Even alcopops, once considered a staple of youth culture, have made a notable return. Bacardi Breezers reported a staggering increase of 1,519% in orders. This revival underscores the power of nostalgia in shaping purchasing decisions.

The influence of TikTok on food trends continues to grow, with one in three respondents indicating that the platform encourages them to explore new global cuisines. For example, orders for products inspired by Dubai chocolate climbed by 2,684%, while Japanese-inspired matcha items, such as Matcha Mochi and Matcha Mojito, saw a 120% rise in popularity.

Health and Wellness Trends on the Rise

Consumer focus on health and wellness has also driven a surge in specific product categories. Performance-enhancing items like electrolytes increased by 1,021%, and high-protein foods and drinks rose by 82%. The report indicates that 11% of UK adults have adopted fitness-related products, such as creatine and green powders, in response to the growing popularity of activities like Hyrox competitions and marathons.

Beauty products have witnessed a similar trend, with on-demand skincare items, including retinol and collagen supplements, gaining traction. Collagen product orders increased by 240%, reflecting a rising consumer interest in beauty and wellness.

Looking towards the future, trends forecaster Dr Morgaine Gaye anticipates that mood-enhancing beverages will become a defining aspect of consumer choices in 2026. The growing prevalence of anxiety and sleep disorders, particularly among younger generations, suggests that wellness brands will increasingly market “mood” as a key benefit.

Additionally, the concept of nose-breathing is expected to gain popularity, driven in part by social media. This trend may lead to an increased demand for nasal tapes designed to enhance fitness and sleep benefits.

In contrast, some trends may experience declines, particularly in caffeine consumption, as non-caffeinated alternatives gain traction. More individuals are opting to host gatherings at home, enjoying meals and drinks with friends, which allows for social interaction while managing expenses.

With Just Eat’s on-demand delivery service, accessing the latest food trends, grocery essentials, and beauty products has never been easier. This accessibility is reshaping how consumers engage with their favorite snacks and wellness products, ensuring that nostalgia meets modern convenience.
