Major Epstein Files Released: 300 Celebrities Named Publicly
The recently unsealed Epstein Files have unveiled a comprehensive list of over 300 celebrities and public figures linked to the late financier, Jeffrey Epstein. The alphabetical compilation, released by US Attorney General Pam Bondi and her team, includes a range of notable names from various fields, spanning from entertainment to politics.
The documents contain millions of emails, photographs, and letters, all made public as part of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandates the disclosure of unclassified records related to Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. Names listed in these files range from Cher, Jay Z, and Woody Allen to political figures such as former President Donald Trump, former President Barack Obama, and current Vice President JD Vance. Other notable mentions include Bruce Springsteen, Keenan Thompson, and Kevin Spacey.
Context of the Released Documents
Bondi clarified that the inclusion of names does not imply guilt or wrongdoing. She and her deputy, Todd Blanche, emphasized that the individuals appear in a “wide variety of contexts.” This means many names surface without any direct link to Epstein’s criminal activities. Notably, both Prince Harry and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer are mentioned, although neither has any known connections to Epstein nor visited his private island, Little Saint James.
The release has sparked controversy, particularly surrounding the claims of transparency. A victim of Epstein’s abuse expressed her frustration, stating, “They’re telling us everything has been released, but we know three million files are still being held back. How is that transparency?” She criticized the ongoing protection of powerful individuals at the expense of victims seeking justice.
Legal and Investigative Implications
In addition to the celebrity list, investigations are ongoing concerning Peter Mandelson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, both of whom have faced scrutiny for allegedly passing sensitive government information to Epstein. Calls for Andrew to testify before the US Congress regarding his connections to Epstein are increasing, as police have launched a criminal investigation into these claims.
The Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law by Donald Trump in 2022, allows for redactions only related to the protection of victims’ identities, active investigations, and child sexual abuse materials. Bondi’s office firmly stated, “No records were withheld or redacted on the basis of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity.”
The public release of these documents, while extensive, continues to raise questions regarding the full extent of Epstein’s network and the implications for those named. Survivors of Epstein’s abuse are left demanding complete transparency and accountability, underscoring a desire for justice that has lingered long after Epstein’s death in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking underage girls.
Maxwell, who was arrested by the FBI and charged with multiple offenses related to her association with Epstein, was found guilty on five child sex trafficking charges in 2021. As the investigation unfolds, the public remains watchful of the potential ramifications for those implicated in the Epstein Files.
