Greene Critiques US Policy on Cartels, Venezuela, and Foreign Wars

Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly criticized past and current US administrations for what she describes as hypocrisy regarding drug trafficking and foreign interventions. In a statement shared on X on October 7, 2023, Greene expressed her concerns about the contradictions she has observed while serving on the Homeland Security Committee. She emphasized the need for stronger border security in the ongoing fight against narco-terrorism.

Greene contends that her three years on the committee have solidified her support for initiatives aimed at securing the US-Mexico border. She stated, “I’m 100% for strong, safe, secure borders and stopping narco terrorists and cartels from trafficking deadly drugs and human trafficking into America.” Highlighting the gravity of the fentanyl crisis, she noted that fentanyl is responsible for over 70% of drug overdose deaths in the United States. “Fentanyl comes from Mexican cartels made with chemical precursors from China and trafficked across the US-Mexico border,” she added.

The congresswoman asserted that Mexican cartels hold primary responsibility for drug-related deaths in the country. She questioned US foreign policy priorities, asking why military actions have focused on Venezuela instead of addressing the cartels operating within the southern border. Greene challenged the rationale behind US military intervention in Venezuela, stating, “If US military action and regime change in Venezuela was really about saving American lives from deadly drugs, then why hasn’t the Trump administration taken action against Mexican cartels?”

Greene also criticized the decision to pardon former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernandez, who was convicted for drug trafficking. She remarked, “Why did President Trump pardon the former Honduran President who was convicted and sentenced for 45 years for trafficking hundreds of tons of cocaine into America?” Her comments reflect a broader skepticism regarding the motivations behind US interventions and pardons.

In her statement, Greene suggested that the push to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is driven by interests in controlling oil supplies, rather than genuine humanitarian concerns. “By removing Maduro, this is a clear move for control over Venezuelan oil supplies that will ensure stability for the next obvious regime change war in Iran,” she claimed.

Her remarks extended to questioning perceived double standards in international relations, particularly regarding military actions. “Why is it ok for America to militarily invade, bomb, and arrest a foreign leader but Russia is evil for invading Ukraine and China is bad for aggression against Taiwan?” Greene asked, adding, “Is it only ok if we do it? (I’m not endorsing Russia or China).”

Greene highlighted the growing public frustration over rising living costs in the United States, suggesting that taxpayer funds are being misallocated to foreign endeavors. “Regime change, funding foreign wars, and Americans’ tax dollars being consistently funneled to foreign causes… while Americans are consistently facing increasing costs of living, housing, and healthcare… is what has most Americans enraged,” she stated.

She emphasized that younger generations are increasingly rejecting what she termed “never-ending military aggression.” Greene concluded that neither major US political party currently addresses the need for solutions focused on domestic economic prosperity, leaving many constituents dissatisfied with the political landscape.

Greene’s comments reflect a significant critique of US foreign policy, particularly in relation to drug trafficking and the allocation of resources. Her call for a reevaluation of priorities resonates with a growing sentiment among some Americans who feel that domestic challenges are being overshadowed by international conflicts.
