Explore Art, Music, and Learning This Fall in the Berkshires

Chesterwood is showcasing a major exhibition featuring the works of sculptor Ann Jon, running until October 31. This retrospective, titled “Ann Jon Retrospective,” includes thirty-one pieces from the artist’s extensive career. Having grown up in Denmark and moved to the United States at eighteen, Jon has drawn inspiration from a variety of cultures throughout her artistic journey. Her studies in stone carving and classical sculpture have allowed her to create compelling three-dimensional forms that resonate with themes of connection across cultures.

Another highlight of the season is the musical “Escape to Margaritaville,” which is currently being staged at the Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham, New York. The production runs through August 31 and features the beloved songs of Jimmy Buffett. This feel-good musical blends romance, comedy, and vibrant island culture.
Audience members can enjoy iconic hits such as “Cheeseburger in Paradise” and “Volcano,” with frozen margaritas available for purchase during performances. The Mac-Haydn Theatre is located at 1925 NY-203, and tickets can be purchased online.
The Lenox Library is introducing a new monthly book club for adults who enjoy young adult literature. Starting on September 30, the club will gather on the last Tuesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.. The inaugural meeting will discuss “Looking For Smoke” by K. A. Cobell. This debut novel intertwines themes of loss and friendship against the backdrop of a murder mystery on the Blackfeet reservation.
Participants can look forward to engaging discussions and exploring both contemporary and classic young adult works. The Lenox Library is located at 18 Main Street in Lenox.
The Taconic Learning Center in Salisbury, Connecticut, is also gearing up for the Fall semester with the addition of nine new courses. Starting on September 15, these non-credit, tuition-free classes aim to promote lifelong learning across various subjects, including literature, history, and the sciences.
Classes will meet for two hours each week for six to eight weeks at either Geer Lodge or Noble Horizons. For an annual membership donation of $60, participants can enroll in as many courses as they wish, with no additional fees.
Berkshire Pulse, located in Housatonic, is announcing its Fall session, offering a range of classes in dance and movement for all ages and skill levels. Beginning on September 8 and running through December 14, these classes include ballet, hip hop, and musical theater, among others.
The studio focuses on inclusivity and community engagement, providing a welcoming space for students. Classes will be held at their location on the third floor of 420 Park Street, and registration details can be found on their website.
Lastly, Berkshire Community College is reviving the BCC Chorale, which will start rehearsals on September 4. Led by Ellen Shanahan, a Professor of Music, this non-credit, volunteer group welcomes students, alumni, and community members to join. Rehearsals will take place on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in room K111 on the college campus, located at 1350 West Street in Pittsfield. No prior experience is required, making it accessible for all interested participants.
