DPS Leader Živković Addresses Allegations of Political Discrediting

During a recent session of the Montenegrin Parliament, Danijel Živković, the leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), raised concerns about potential media leaks related to ongoing investigations by the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT). Živković warned that if sensitive information were to surface publicly, it could lead to widespread public ridicule and discredit political figures across the board.
Živković’s remarks came as he addressed the implications of certain allegations that have emerged during the SDT’s latest actions. He emphasized the potential consequences of exposing private matters, particularly citing incidents that might have occurred in motels in the Czech Republic or hotels in Belgrade. He argued that the public release of such details could cross ethical lines and that such disclosures need to be approached with caution.
“What if we began to publicly reveal what members of the parliamentary majority think of each other?” Živković posed. “Would anyone find it pleasant if sensitive information from Berane were to be disclosed? Do we really want to see what has happened in various motels in the Czech Republic come to light? We cannot operate without a moral compass, and there must be boundaries to what can be made public.”
He pointedly noted the awareness of ongoing discussions in hotels and pools across Montenegro, highlighting that even certain prosecutors might be implicated in dubious activities, including cigarette smuggling. This statement underscores the complicated landscape of political integrity in Montenegro.
Živković indicated that the situation is reaching a tipping point. “Now that the dam has burst, we are going to see everything,” he stated. He expressed no objection to the full disclosure of information, stating, “Let it all come out, as long as someone in this room can honestly say they have never exchanged a message with an electorate about what is referenced in the investigation order. If we reach that point, then 90 percent of the political scene will end up in prison.”
The DPS leader criticized the practices within the prosecutor’s office, suggesting that confidential information is being leaked to the media to serve political motives. He claimed this is a tactic to reshape the political landscape in Montenegro, asserting that this approach undermines the integrity of the judicial system.
Živković concluded with a firm declaration about the values guiding their political fight. He stated, “Those in the prosecutor’s office who think there is nothing above the law are mistaken. In Montenegro, custom and tradition hold far greater value than law. We are ready to go all the way in this battle, regardless of whether the outcome is imprisonment or worse. Anyone who attacks the honor of these people can be assured that our response will be much stronger than anyone anticipates.”
As political tensions rise in Montenegro, Živković’s comments shed light on the ongoing struggles within the country’s political framework, hinting at deeper issues of accountability and transparency within the government and justice system.
