Criminal Charges Filed Against Timber Mill Owner for Illegal Logging

Authorities in Berane have taken action against a local timber mill owner, filing criminal charges related to illegal logging activities. The Regional Police Center “North” has submitted a formal complaint to the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Berane against N.F. (61), suspected of committing the crime of forest theft.

Investigators discovered a total of 10.93 m3 of fir wood at N.F.’s timber mill, located in the municipality of Berane. Following this discovery, police initiated efforts to determine the origin of the wood and informed the Forest Management Directorate.

In response to the police notification, inspectors from the Forest Management Directorate located the logging site for the timber, which is situated in the Jelovica mountains. This prompted the police to take further action. The state prosecutor overseeing the case has ordered that charges be filed against N.F. for the alleged crime of forest theft.

According to estimates, N.F.’s illegal logging activities caused damage to the Forest Management Directorate amounting to approximately €2,750.

The police continue to emphasize their commitment to uncovering, preventing, and combating criminal acts that threaten the preservation of natural resources. They reaffirmed their alignment with national priorities in fighting ecological crime. Furthermore, the police have called on other relevant authorities responsible for forest protection to enhance their efforts in preventing illegal forestry activities and preserving biodiversity.
