Serbian Citizen Arrested in Herceg Novi on International Warrant

A 61-year-old Serbian citizen, identified as S.O., was arrested yesterday in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, under an international warrant issued by NCB Interpol Belgrade. The arrest took place during enhanced border control operations aimed at monitoring the movement and residency of foreigners.

According to the Police Administration, officers from the Border Police Station in Herceg Novi stopped S.O. after he presented a personal identification card that raised suspicions of forgery. The police statement indicated that after further checks in collaboration with Frontex officials, it was confirmed that the identification document was indeed counterfeit. This prompted the notification of the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Herceg Novi, which indicated that S.O.’s actions constituted elements of the crime of document forgery.

In addition to the initial suspicions, thorough checks were conducted in cooperation with NCB Interpol Podgorica. These checks revealed that an international warrant had been issued for S.O. He is wanted to ensure his presence in criminal proceedings being conducted against him by the relevant authorities in the Republic of Serbia.

As a result of these findings, S.O. will be brought before the prosecuting attorney at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Herceg Novi within the legal timeframe. Authorities will address the matter of the forged document before proceeding to present him to the competent investigative judge, in connection with the international warrant issued against him.

The case highlights the ongoing collaboration between international law enforcement agencies and underscores the importance of border security measures in combating crime across jurisdictions.
