The EPCG Superliga for volleyball teams is taking a brief pause this weekend, with the focus shifting to the quarterfinals of the Montenegro Cup. Budva, the defending champions, has secured a spot in the semifinals without having to compete this weekend. This advance sets the stage for an exciting series of matches as the remaining teams vie for their chance to join Budva in the next round.

The quarterfinals kick off with a match between Ulcinj and Jedinstvo, scheduled to take place at the sports hall of OSH “Maršal Tito” in Ulcinj. In the league phase of the current season, Jedinstvo managed to secure one of its four victories during a previous visit to Ulcinj. The newcomers to the Superliga, Ulcinj, will look to build on their single victory in the championship as they aim to repeat their strong showing against Jedinstvo, which previously resulted in a close defeat in a tiebreak.

Half an hour later, a critical matchup will unfold at the Sports Centre in Nikšić, where Sutjeska will face Buducnost. The Podgorica team remains undefeated in the current EPCG Superliga season, having previously triumphed over Sutjeska with a score of 3:1 in their last encounter in Nikšić.

The final quarterfinal clash is set for Tuesday, featuring Mornar taking on Lovćen at the “Topolica” hall. Mornar had convincingly defeated the Cetinje team during the league phase, adding further anticipation to this matchup.

The draw for the semifinals will determine the pairings, with the semifinal matches scheduled to occur in the latter half of December. The quarterfinal fixtures are as follows: today, Ulcinj will face Jedinstvo at 20:00, and Sutjeska will take on Buducnost at 20:30. On Tuesday, Mornar will host Lovćen at 20:00. Budva remains free from competition this weekend as they await their next challenge.

As teams compete fiercely for a place in the semifinals, the excitement surrounding the Montenegro Cup continues to grow, promising an exhilarating end to the tournament.
