Pwllheli Man Fined for Racial Harassment at Local Supermarket

A man from Pwllheli has been fined for racially harassing an individual at a local supermarket. Iwan Jones, aged 48, appeared before Caernarfon Magistrates’ Court on July 24, 2023. The incident occurred at the Asda store in Pwllheli on August 19, 2022.
Initially, Jones had pleaded not guilty to the charge of racially aggravated harassment during a court appearance in May. However, he changed his plea to guilty just before the trial was set to begin. The court heard that a separate charge related to threatening behaviour was withdrawn as part of the proceedings.
For his actions, Jones has been fined £324 by the magistrates. In addition to the fine, he is required to pay £400 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
This case serves as a reminder of the legal consequences of racial harassment and the commitment of local authorities to address such behaviours in their communities. The judicial system aims to uphold respect and dignity in public spaces, ensuring that incidents of this nature are taken seriously.
