Prince Harry Will Not Return to Sentebale Charity Amid Controversy

Prince Harry has decided against returning to the charity he established in Lesotho, Sentebale, in memory of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. According to sources, the charity, which focuses on supporting young people affected by HIV and AIDS, has faced significant challenges since the Duke of Sussex stepped away in March 2024.

Sentebale has reportedly struggled with its finances over the past months, exacerbated by allegations of racism, bullying, and misogyny made by former trustee Sophie Chandauka. These accusations have led to a decline in donations, prompting concerns about the charity’s sustainability. A source close to the situation stated, “The idea that Harry was ever going to return has been completely extinguished. There’s absolutely no way now. It’s all too tarnished.”

Chandauka, a lawyer from Zimbabwe, resigned as chair of Sentebale in early 2024 after a dispute concerning fundraising initiatives in the United States. An independent review conducted later found no evidence to support the claims of bullying and harassment. Despite these findings, the fallout from the allegations continues to affect the charity’s reputation.

In a statement to The Times, Sentebale maintained that its audited accounts, prepared by independent auditors and submitted to the Charity Commission on September 30, 2025, confirm the charity is financially stable. The organization emphasized its commitment to continuing operations with established strategic plans for both 2025 and 2026.

The charity also noted that a restructuring process, particularly concerning its Botswana programme, has been in progress since 2023 and received board approval in phases since early 2024. “Sentebale does not comment on individual employment matters,” the statement added, indicating that the focus remains on the charity’s future rather than past controversies.

As Sentebale works to navigate its challenges, the absence of Prince Harry’s involvement may further complicate its fundraising efforts. The charity, founded in 2006, has a rich history of supporting vulnerable youth, but its current situation raises questions about its ability to maintain its impact in the community it serves.
