Budućnost Parts Ways with Vukićević; Brnović’s Return Considered
Budućnost has parted ways with head coach Dejan Vukićević following what has been described as the club’s worst half-season since its independence. Reports indicate that Vukićević was dismissed last night, although club president Boris Spalević issued a statement today suggesting that the experienced coach proposed a mutual termination of their contract. The board is expected to deliberate on this matter in the coming days.
The decision comes after a dismal showing in the latest match against Decič, where Budućnost suffered a 1-0 defeat in Tuzima. This loss continued a troubling trend for the team, which has seen them fail to secure a victory in four consecutive matches. Vukićević has faced significant criticism, as Budućnost has recorded six losses in their last eight league games, accumulating more defeats than wins with a record of 5-3-6. Furthermore, the club was eliminated in the first round of the Montenegrin Football Cup, compounding the crisis.
Budućnost now finds itself in an unprecedented position, sitting seventh in the league table, a staggering 11 points behind leaders Sutjeska, and only five points above the relegation zone. The team’s decline has raised concerns about its future, and the current leadership faces scrutiny for their decisions, particularly regarding coaching appointments. Notably, Vukićević has achieved the lowest win rate in the club’s history, a stark contrast to the expectations held by fans and management alike.
As the club navigates this challenging phase, speculation is rife about who will take the helm next. Names such as Milija Savović and Aleksandar Nedović have been floated as potential successors, but sources close to the club suggest neither will likely secure the position. Instead, there is growing interest in the possibility of bringing back Ivan Brnović, who led the team to a championship title last season. His previous tenure was marred by conflicts with some of the club’s most passionate supporters, raising questions about how his return would be received.
The management appears keen to avoid escalating tensions with the fan base, particularly with the so-called “Varvari,” who have been vocal in their discontent. Therefore, it seems more plausible that Budućnost will appoint a new coach who can unite the team and its supporters.
The club’s leadership is now faced with the urgent task of making a decisive move to restore stability and confidence ahead of the next league matches. As the football community watches closely, the future direction of Budućnost remains uncertain, but the pressure to act is mounting. The public awaits further developments as the club deliberates its options.
