Trump Declared in Excellent Health After Latest Medical Check-Up
Donald Trump has been confirmed to be in “excellent overall health” following a recent medical examination at Walter Reed Medical Center. The evaluation, which took place on August 25, 2023, comes amid ongoing speculation regarding the former president’s physical condition, particularly concerning his bruised hands and swollen ankles.
During the examination, Trump, who is 79 years old, received positive feedback from his physician, Navy Captain Sean Barbabella. In a letter released by the White House, Barbabella stated, “President Trump continues to demonstrate excellent overall health.” He highlighted that Trump’s cardiac age, an indicator of cardiovascular vitality measured through an electrocardiogram (ECG), is approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age.
The check-up included routine tests, an updated COVID-19 booster, and an annual flu shot. This visit marks Trump’s second health check-up of the year, following a previous appointment in April. Although the White House characterized it as an “annual” check-up, Trump referred to it as a “semi-annual physical,” emphasizing his robust condition. He told reporters, “I’m in great shape… Physically, I feel very good. Mentally, I feel very good.”
In response to questions about his cognitive health, Trump expressed confidence, stating, “I also did a cognitive exam which is always very risky, because if I didn’t do well, you’d be the first to be blaring it, and I had a perfect score.” He compared his health evaluations to those of his predecessors, noting that he underwent assessments that others, such as former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, did not.
Earlier this year, the White House disclosed that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common and benign condition among older adults. The bruising observed on his hands was attributed to the aspirin he takes as part of his cardiovascular health regimen. Trump has occasionally appeared in public with makeup on his hands to conceal the bruising, which has fueled speculation about his health.
In a separate memo released on August 25, Barbabella reiterated that Trump remains in “exceptional health,” showcasing strong cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, and physical performance. The check-up, lasting approximately three hours, involved advanced imaging, lab tests, and preventive health assessments, particularly as Trump prepares for upcoming overseas engagements.
Recently, unfounded claims regarding Trump’s health circulated online, prompting the hashtag #whereistrump to trend. Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones even suggested Trump was facing a significant health crisis. These rumors were dispelled when Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported confirmation from a U.S. official about Trump’s good health.
As Trump continues to navigate the public eye, he remains focused on maintaining his health and addressing the challenges that accompany his political career.
