Benidorm Approves £24 Million Luxury Skyscraper Project

A new luxury skyscraper, known as the TM Tower, is poised to redefine the skyline of Benidorm, a popular Spanish resort town. The local council has approved the construction of this impressive 230-metre (754 feet) tower, which will become the tallest residential building in the European Union upon completion.

The TM Tower will consist of 64 floors and is projected to cost approximately £23.8 million. It will house 260 flats along with a range of amenities including a gym, sports area, swimming pools, and a private cinema. Its prime location opposite Benidorm’s largest beach, Poniente, further enhances its appeal. At the pinnacle of the tower, a bar will feature an astronomical observatory, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean.

Height and Impact in Europe

Benidorm holds the title for having the most skyscrapers per capita in the world, and the TM Tower will exceed the height of the current tallest building in the city, the Intempo, which stands at 202 metres (662 feet). The TM Tower will be second only to the massive Neva Towers complex in Moscow, which reaches a height of 354 metres.

Construction is backed by TM Grupo Inmobiliario, with work expected to commence later this year and conclude in the latter half of 2028. The company states that the tower will feature a rigid reinforced concrete structure, specifically designed to endure strong winds, and will include high-speed lifts capable of travelling at six metres per second.

Community Response and Future Prospects

Interest in the TM Tower appears significant, with reports indicating that some potential tenants have already begun making pre-reservations, according to the Spanish newspaper El Pais. The residential units will range from one to four bedrooms, catering to a diverse population.

Benidorm, which celebrates its 900th anniversary this year, has transformed from a small fishing village into one of the Mediterranean’s most sought-after holiday destinations. Last year, the city welcomed nearly 900,000 visitors from the UK, solidifying its status as a major hub for British tourists.

As the TM Tower prepares to rise, it symbolizes not just a new residential option but also the continuing evolution of Benidorm into a modern tourist hotspot. With its ambitious design and comprehensive amenities, it promises to enhance the Mediterranean lifestyle for residents and visitors alike.
