The acclaimed Slovenian film “Belo se pere na devedeset” will begin its theatrical distribution in Montenegro on March 5, 2025. The film will screen at the Sinepleks cinema in Podgorica and at the Cultural Centre in Tivat starting on March 9, 2025. This production is expected to resonate deeply with local audiences, as it showcases one of the most notable Slovenian cinematic achievements in recent years.

Achieving remarkable success in Slovenia, the film has become the highest-grossing film of 2025, surpassing 100,000 viewers in cinemas. It has outperformed all international competitors at the Slovenian box office, a testament to its compelling narrative and emotional depth. The film’s further screenings in additional cities across Montenegro are anticipated later in the month.

Directed by Marko Naberšnik, “Belo se pere na devedeset” is based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Slovenian author Bronja Žakelj. The book, published in 2018, quickly became a literary phenomenon in Slovenia and the surrounding region, garnering the prestigious Kresnik Award for the best novel of the year. Žakelj’s writing offers a poignant exploration of themes such as growing up, loss, and the struggles for survival within the context of Yugoslav society during the 1980s and 1990s.

The film adaptation presents an intimate and powerful story told through the eyes of its central character, who navigates a series of life challenges while seeking strength during pivotal moments. The cast features talented actors, including Lea Cok, Jurij Zrnec, and Tjaša Železnik, among others.

This project is a collaborative international co-production involving Slovenia, Italy, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. It is produced by the Slovenian production company Perfo Production, with the Montenegrin production house Protos Film participating as a minority co-producer. The project has also received support from the Film Center of Montenegro.

As audiences prepare for its release, “Belo se pere na devedeset” promises to deliver a resonant and moving experience, reflecting shared human experiences of love, family, and loss. The film stands as a significant cultural contribution, highlighting the depth of storytelling in Slovenian cinema.
