Five flights were cancelled at Manchester Airport this morning, January 5, 2024, primarily due to adverse winter weather affecting the Netherlands. Three flights to Amsterdam have been impacted, alongside additional cancellations to Belfast and Aberdeen.

The cancelled flights to Amsterdam include EasyJet flight EZY2161 scheduled for 07:00, and KLM flights KL1030 at 09:05 and KL1032 at 11:00. Schiphol Airport has experienced a series of delays and cancellations in recent days, attributed to freezing temperatures and significant snow. A notice on the airport’s website indicated that “due to winter weather and aircraft de-icing, flights on January 4 and January 5 may experience delays or cancellations.”

In addition to the Amsterdam flights, two other departures from Manchester Airport were also cancelled: EasyJet flight EZY701 to Belfast International at 07:00 and Loganair flight LM022 to Aberdeen at 08:30.

Weather Warnings Affect Travel

The cancellations coincide with warnings from the Met Office, which has issued alerts regarding potential travel disruption due to severe winter conditions. A snow and ice warning remains in effect for the region until midday today, with forecasts predicting that snow showers may extend across parts of Wales, northwest England, the West Midlands, and southwest England throughout Sunday afternoon and evening.

The Met Office stated, “Snow and ice has the potential to cause disruption to travel in places Sunday afternoon through to Monday morning.” Accumulations of 1-3 cm of snow are expected in many areas by Monday morning, with some locations, particularly in inland and elevated parts of Wales, potentially seeing up to 5-8 cm.

Travelers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates and to remain cautious while navigating potentially icy conditions.

As the winter weather continues to affect air travel, passengers are encouraged to prepare for possible delays and cancellations in the coming days.
