Podgorica Achieves Record €65 Million in Capital Investments
The city of Podgorica has reported a historic achievement in capital investments, with a total of €65 million allocated for various projects throughout 2025. Mayor Saša Mujović announced these results during a recent press conference, highlighting the significance of these figures despite the city operating under a temporary financing regime for the first two months of the year.
Mujović noted that 2025 marks a substantial increase from the previous record set in 2022, when the capital budget reached approximately €55 million. He underscored that this year has seen a remarkable output, particularly given the constraints faced at the start of the year.
Key Infrastructure and Community Developments
The mayor detailed several completed projects that contributed to this financial milestone. Significant road works include the completion of several streets, such as Husinskih Rudara and Vučedolska, as well as the development of new parking facilities across the city. Over 1,000 new parking spaces were added to accommodate residents and visitors alike.
In addition to road improvements, major works have been finalized at the new city cemetery, with upgrades made to existing cemeteries at Čepurci and Zagorič. Mujović highlighted the acquisition of essential equipment aimed at enhancing municipal services, including the procurement of 10 garbage trucks for the municipal company Čistoća and new buses to improve public transport connectivity.
Mujović also pointed out the completion of numerous facade renovations on buildings, including the critically maintained Lepa Kata and high-rises in Block 5. He emphasized the collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Public Works to initiate new projects, including the construction of Jusovača and the expansion of Vojislavljević Boulevard.
Future Plans and Ongoing Projects
Looking ahead, Mujović confirmed that the city has already initiated tender processes for several projects planned for 2026. These include the paving of Ulica Slobode, transforming it into a pedestrian zone, and the continuation of works on Vučedolska Street. Contracts have been secured for the design of the “Podgoričanka” and for the realization of Trg Božane Vučinić.
Further infrastructure enhancements are on the horizon, with ongoing tender processes for the construction of a new bridge and the renovation of existing structures related to Vojislavljević Boulevard. The municipality is also seeking contractors for the Western Bypass, which is set to be a major development in modernizing the city’s transport network.
Mujović reiterated the city’s commitment to prioritizing capital projects over current expenditures, evidenced by the record spending of nearly €65 million this year. He expressed optimism that these efforts will continue to position Podgorica as a forward-thinking city, particularly as it prepares for its designation as the European Capital of Youth 2028.
Overall, Podgorica’s ambitious plans and accomplishments reflect a strategic push towards sustainable urban development, enhancing the quality of life for its residents while addressing essential infrastructure needs.
