A British woman has been arrested in Benidorm following the alleged strangulation of her friend during a heated argument. The incident took place in an apartment located in the popular area known as ‘Little England,’ frequented by British expatriates and tourists. Emergency services were summoned around midnight by a mutual friend, who reported the distressing situation.

Upon arrival, police found the victim, a 66-year-old woman, already deceased, with the vacuum cleaner lead still around her neck. The suspect, aged 64, is reported to have confessed to the act after being taken into custody by the authorities. According to the National Police, “A woman aged 64 has been arrested on suspicion of killing another 66-year-old woman, both from the UK.”

Investigation Underway

The nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim remains unclear, as does the identity of the third woman who contacted the police. Local reports indicate that both women were holidaymakers spending time together in the apartment where the incident occurred.

Before being transported to a police station, the arrested woman was taken to a health center in Benidorm for a medical examination. Forensic experts have retrieved the vacuum cleaner lead for DNA testing, and detectives are also gathering statements from witnesses present during the altercation.

A court has assumed control of the ongoing investigation while awaiting a comprehensive police report and the results of a full post-mortem examination. Initial findings have confirmed that the victim died from strangulation.

The body of the deceased was removed from the scene around 03:00 on March 15, 2024. As the investigation progresses, authorities have not disclosed when the suspect will appear before a judge, and further details about the incident remain limited.

The tragic event has shocked the local community, particularly given the area’s reputation as a favored destination for British travelers. As the investigation continues, police have emphasized that they will provide updates as more information becomes available.
