Turkish National Arrested at Bozaj Border Crossing on Interpol Warrant

A Turkish national was arrested at the Bozaj border crossing on October 19, 2023, while attempting to leave Montenegro. This arrest was made in response to an international warrant issued by Interpol, specifically from Turkey. According to the Police Administration, the individual, identified as G.A. (49), was detained by officers from the Border Police Sector as he was exiting the country.

The arrest stemmed from a request by the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol in Ankara, which had issued the warrant for G.A.’s apprehension. Authorities in Montenegro verified his identity through collaboration with NCB Interpol Podgorica. G.A. is wanted in Turkey to serve the remainder of a sentence totaling ten years, three months, and ten days. This sentence was handed down by the Higher Criminal Court in Adana due to his involvement in criminal activities, including membership in an organization formed for committing crimes and robbery carried out in conspiracy with multiple individuals.

Following the arrest, the Police Administration confirmed that the individual was handed over to the investigating judge at the Higher Court in Podgorica. This transfer occurred within the legally required timeframe for extradition proceedings. The court will determine the next steps regarding G.A.’s extradition back to Turkey, where he faces significant legal repercussions for his actions.
