On November 4, 2023, the second visual arts salon, “Pean – Sindik,” opened at the Museum and Galleries of Tivat, showcasing a vibrant blend of tradition and contemporary expression. The theme for this year, “Imaginary Mediterranean,” attracted a diverse group of 36 artists from both the local region and beyond, selected from a total of 130 submitted works.

The jury’s decision not to award the Grand Prix this year was notable. Instead, second place was awarded to Croatian artist Matko Vekić for his artwork titled “Intuition.” Other recognized artists included Filip Dacevac and Lidija Martinovic in the under-35 category, along with Milan Pantelic and Lucija Jelic.

During the announcement, Nevenka Šarčević, chair of the expert jury, emphasized that the absence of a first-place award should not be viewed as a setback. Rather, it serves as a motivation for artists to pursue bolder and more profound creative endeavors. She stated, “We see this as an opportunity to encourage artists to create with greater courage and commitment.”

The museum director, Danijela Đukić, highlighted the event’s significance beyond showcasing art. She noted, “This event is not just an opportunity to gather around art; it allows us to collectively reflect on the results of dedicated and ongoing efforts to develop the cultural scene of Tivat.”

The Pean – Sindik salon not only celebrates established artists but also promotes emerging talent, presenting a wide spectrum of contemporary artistic expressions. Đukić remarked that the event reaffirms the institution’s commitment to fostering a professional and inclusive environment that supports artists and contributes to cultural awareness within the local community.

The works from the 36 participating artists are displayed across three levels of the Museum and Galleries of Tivat. The opening was enlivened by a musical performance from Adrian Gebauer, a graduate of the local music school, who played the saxophone. This exhibition coincides with the commencement of the “November Days” event, sponsored by the Municipality of Tivat, which celebrates the municipality’s founding day on November 21.

The “Pean – Sindik” salon is a testament to Tivat’s growing cultural identity and its role as a vital center for artistic expression in the region. Through various exhibitions and educational programs, the museum has established itself as a significant contributor to the area’s cultural life, further solidifying its mission to encourage dialogue and collaboration among artists and institutions.
