Tata Motors has officially launched the facelifted version of its popular compact SUV, the Punch, in New Delhi. The updated model is priced from Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and introduces several enhancements, including a new turbocharged engine, updated exterior design, and additional features. This marks the first significant mid-life update for the Punch since its debut in 2021.

The overall silhouette of the Punch remains consistent, but notable changes have been made to both the front and rear of the vehicle. The facelift introduces six new color options, enhancing its appeal. The new model is now available for bookings.

Engine Options and Performance Enhancements

One of the most significant updates in the Punch facelift is the introduction of a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 120 hp and 170 Nm of torque. This engine, adapted from the Nexon, addresses previous concerns regarding the Punch’s power output. The turbo engine is paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox, with Tata not offering an automatic variant to maintain a clear distinction from lower-tier Nexon models. The revamped Punch can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 11.1 seconds.

In addition to the turbo engine, the Punch retains its existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 88 hp and 115 Nm. There is also a petrol+CNG variant, generating 73 hp and 103 Nm. Both these engines are available with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a new Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) option has been introduced for the CNG variant.

Exterior and Interior Updates

While the body shape remains largely unchanged, Tata Motors has enhanced the Punch’s aesthetic appeal. The facelift features new vertically stacked LED headlights with a distinctive triangular design, complemented by LED daytime running lights positioned above. The front bumper now has a robust black finish, accented with silver details, contributing to a more rugged appearance. The side profile sees the addition of new 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, while the rear is updated with new LED tail-lamps connected by an illuminating light bar.

Inside, the Punch retains its familiar black and white cabin theme, but it includes several modern updates. The dashboard layout is mostly unchanged, but it now features a new two-spoke steering wheel with a gloss black finish and an illuminated Tata logo. A touch-based climate control panel has been introduced, resembling those in the Nexon and Sierra models. The upholstery design takes inspiration from the Punch EV, featuring a blue and grey color scheme. Importantly, both front and rear seats now offer extendable thigh support, and all passengers benefit from 3-point seatbelts.

The technology upgrades are noteworthy as well. The Punch facelift maintains a 10.25-inch touchscreen but adds a new 7-inch digital driver’s display sourced from mid-variant models of the Altroz. Additional features include a 360-degree camera, an improved 8-speaker sound system, a single-pane sunroof, wireless phone charging, and support for both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other amenities include automatic climate control with rear air conditioning vents, cruise control, and automatic headlamps.

Safety features have not been overlooked. The Punch facelift is equipped with six airbags as standard and has achieved a 5-star rating for adult and child occupant protection in the Bharat NCAP. Additional safety features include rear parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill hold and descent control, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The Tata Punch facelift is available with multiple engine options, including petrol, CNG, and turbo-petrol variants. Prices start at Rs 5.59 lakh for the base Smart petrol manual variant and can rise to Rs 10.54 lakh for the top-spec Accomplished+ S iCNG AMT. The updated model provides a diverse range of choices for prospective buyers, catering to various budgets and fuel preferences.

With these enhancements, Tata Motors aims to strengthen the Punch’s position in the competitive compact SUV market, providing customers with a blend of style, performance, and safety.
