Police Ensure Safety at Montenegro vs. Croatia Match with Strategic Planning
During the football match between Montenegro and Croatia on July 6, 2023, the Police Directorate implemented extensive security measures to maintain public order and safety. This event was officially designated as having increased security risks, prompting a comprehensive response from law enforcement.
Strategic Security Measures in Place
According to Lazar Šćepanović, Director of the Police Directorate, various planned activities were executed to ensure a stable environment before, during, and after the match. This involved a heightened police presence not only in the capital city but also in other areas where fans traveled, from the border with Croatia to Podgorica and back.
The effective maintenance of public order and traffic safety was attributed to meticulously coordinated activities by the Police Directorate. These initiatives were built upon an extensive framework of inter-agency and international collaboration, highlighting the importance of teamwork in complex security situations.
Key roles were played by personnel from the RCB “Center” and the General Police Sector, along with support from other significant resources within the Police Directorate, including the Border Police Sector and special police units. Šćepanović emphasized the commitment of officers who, despite challenging weather conditions, demonstrated professionalism and resilience in carrying out their duties.
Communication and Coordination
Throughout the operational activities, transparent and timely communication with the public was prioritized. Citizens received real-time updates regarding safety and movement recommendations, which contributed to a well-informed environment during the event.
“The match was officially declared a high-security risk event, and the Police Directorate successfully maintained peace, demonstrating its role as a guarantor of safety and the protection of citizens’ rights,”
Šćepanović stated in a press release.
He extended his gratitude to all police officers who worked diligently under demanding circumstances. Šćepanović also recognized the efforts of supervisors and coordinators who facilitated communication on the ground and thanked colleagues from the Agency for National Security (ANB) for their synchronized intelligence efforts.
Furthermore, he expressed appreciation for Nikola Milina, Director of the Croatian Police, and his team, for their collaborative efforts in providing support and exchanging information in real-time. This partnership was crucial in ensuring a secure environment for fans from both nations.
In conclusion, Šćepanović acknowledged the responsible behavior of the citizens, which contributed to the overall success of the event, reinforcing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining safety during large public gatherings.
