Mother Leaves Butlin’s Holiday After One Night Due to Cleanliness Issues

A mother has expressed her dissatisfaction with the state of accommodation at Butlin’s holiday park in Skegness, leading her to leave after just one night. Jasmine took to TikTok to share her experience, documenting her family’s stay in what she described as a “grimy” and “damp” room that required a thorough cleaning.
Jasmine highlighted several cleanliness issues within the room, including a dead bug on the bed and pervasive dirt throughout, particularly in the shower and bin areas. In her TikTok post, which garnered attention from her 19,000 followers, she stated, “I could make a 10-minute video on all of the issues in here but here’s some of them.”
During her video tour, Jasmine noted the discomfort experienced by her family upon entering the room. “Even walking up to the room I felt grimy. This is the Butlin’s comfort room. This is my sign to not blindly book something,” she said. She initially intended to book an apartment but ended up in a smaller accommodation than expected.
The family opted not to sleep in the room for more than one night due to the conditions. Jasmine recounted how her daughter woke up asking why the bed felt wet, further emphasizing the state of disrepair they encountered. “The mould was over the windows, there were cobwebs up the walls… Our daughter got poo on her hand walking out and I was like ‘nah, that’s it, 100% I am going.’”
Despite her dissatisfaction with the room, Jasmine acknowledged the positive aspects of the holiday park, particularly the activities available for children. “The stuff kids can do here is amazing though – I will not fault Butlins for that. It is just a shame about the room,” she remarked.
In response to Jasmine’s concerns, a spokesperson for Butlin’s stated, “We’re sorry and disappointed to see the cleanliness issues the guest experienced with their accommodation. This certainly isn’t the high standards we expect our guests to receive when they holiday with us.” The spokesperson added that a thorough cleaning was conducted and a gesture of goodwill was offered to the family, which was accepted.
Social media reactions have varied, with some users sharing similar experiences. One commented, “This looks so much cleaner than our room,” while another recounted their own negative experience at Skegness, noting issues such as broken windows and unclean bedding.
Conversely, other visitors have shared positive experiences at Butlin’s, suggesting that not all accommodations reflect the problems Jasmine faced. One individual remarked, “Which Butlin’s is this?? We’ve always been to the Skeg one and never had a room like this. That’s grim.”
The incident highlights the importance of cleanliness and maintenance in the hospitality industry, as guests increasingly share their experiences online.
