Montenegro Reaffirms Commitment to Multilateralism in New York

During his visit to New York, Ervin Ibrahimović, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, participated in significant discussions on the second day of the 80th United Nations General Assembly. Ibrahimović emphasized Montenegro’s commitment to enhancing regional cooperation, multilateralism, and gender equality.
In a statement from his ministry, it was noted that Ibrahimović attended a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, where he reaffirmed Montenegro’s dedication to peace and the strengthening of the UN’s role in addressing global challenges. He articulated that European integration is essential for the long-term stability and prosperity of the region.
Focus on Regional Cooperation and European Integration
At a working breakfast organized by the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, Ibrahimović stated that the European Union is not only a geopolitical necessity but also a shared framework for peace, development, and democratic values. He reiterated Montenegro’s commitment to concluding EU accession negotiations by 2026 and achieving full membership by 2028.
“Regional cooperation and trust-building are the best tools for overcoming challenges and opening new opportunities for our citizens,” he added, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in the region.
Commitment to Gender Equality
During a meeting commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, Ibrahimović underscored Montenegro’s alignment with global partners to promote gender equality and empower women and girls. He stressed that advocating for women’s rights, combating violence and discrimination, and challenging deeply rooted stereotypes are essential elements of good governance and sustainable development.
“It is our duty as governments in power to create a just and equitable future for all women and girls. We owe this to our mothers and daughters, but above all, we owe it to entire societies,” Ibrahimović stated.
He also pointed out that Montenegro’s national strategies are fully aligned with international standards and sustainable development goals. The government continues to prioritize gender equality as a core aspect of its policy agenda.
On the same day, Ibrahimović participated in a high-level meeting regarding Palestine, where Montenegro reiterated its commitment to international efforts aimed at achieving a fair and sustainable peace based on a two-state solution, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Through these engagements, Montenegro positions itself as a proactive player in both regional and global dialogues, reinforcing its dedication to multilateral efforts that address pressing global issues.
