Montenegrin Duo Crowned World Champions at Jiu-Jitsu Event
Montenegro’s representatives, Stefan Vukotic and Lidija Cakovic, have emerged as world champions in the duo show category at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand. Their remarkable achievement comes after they previously secured a bronze medal in the duo show discipline during the same event.
The Budva-based duo outperformed competitors from countries with rich traditions in jiu-jitsu, including hosts Thailand, Austria, and Italy. Their victory stands as a testament to their skill and determination, particularly given the competitive nature of the championship.
Inspirational Achievement for Montenegro
According to their coach, Ranko Vukotic, this success transcends the boundaries of sport and serves as an inspiration for an entire generation of young fighters in Montenegro. He expressed his pride in their performance, stating, “This is simply something that can only be expressed through emotions. After yesterday’s bronze, which felt like gold to me, they have now shown they can defeat the Thai national team, the country from which the duo show discipline originates.”
Vukotic emphasized that this victory is the pinnacle of their achievements, following their triumphs at both the World Games and the European Championship, where they were also crowned European champions. He added, “However, they do not have much time to celebrate, as Stefan and Lidija are preparing to return to the mat in Bangkok, this time in the duo classic discipline, where I expect another outstanding performance.”
Additional Success for Montenegro
In addition to the gold medal won by Vukotic and Cakovic, another Montenegrin athlete, Arso Milic, also made his mark at the championship by securing a bronze medal in the under 94-kilogram fighting category. This accomplishment further highlights Montenegro’s growing prominence in the sport of jiu-jitsu on the international stage.
As the Montenegrin team continues to excel, their recent successes not only elevate their status in the sport but also inspire future generations of athletes in Montenegro.
