Heavy rainfall across Montenegro over the past few days has led to significant flooding, affecting homes, roads, and infrastructure. As a result, residents in areas such as Danilovgrad and Podgorica are grappling with waterlogged properties and impassable routes.

The Moraca River in Podgorica has reached nearly 11 meters, approaching record levels. In the Beri neighborhood, floodwaters have invaded two homes, damaging streets and yards. Locals express concerns that ongoing rain could jeopardize the bridge over the Sitnica River. Meanwhile, in Danilovgrad, houses on one side of the Zeta River have been inundated, with reports of significant water levels also affecting the area around the Đedovina restaurant in Rogami.

Authorities have taken action, closing the main road between Danilovgrad and Niksic at Orja Luka due to unsafe conditions. The municipality has advised motorists to reroute via an alternative path through Peshat – Šarena Ploča – Orja Luka and urged patience as they navigate the situation.

Infrastructure Damage and Emergency Response

The situation in northern Montenegro remains critical, with extensive damage evident in images showing asphalt washed away on roads leading to Jelovica. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries from the floods. However, the impact on local operations is significant. The Pljevlja Coal Mine has announced challenges in coal extraction and delivery to the Thermal Power Plant (TE) Pljevlja, attributing these issues to the heavy rains that have also affected the municipality of Pljevlja.

Specialized teams are currently assessing the damage and working diligently to ensure safe operations and secure coal supplies. They are committed to upholding safety standards and maintaining the stability of the local energy system.

Southern Montenegro Faces Storm Risks

In southern Montenegro, severe weather conditions characterized by strong southern winds and high waves have endangered four accommodation units in the nudist resort on Ada Bojana. According to HTP “Ulcinjska rivijera,” the affected buildings were submerged but there is hope for their preservation, as water levels have receded. Nevertheless, officials warn that ongoing erosion and extreme weather conditions continue to pose serious risks to the area.

Authorities are actively monitoring the situation as they respond to the immediate challenges posed by the flooding and weather disturbances. The community remains on high alert as further rainfall is anticipated in the coming days.
