A fourth individual has been charged in connection with the alleged torture and murder of cybersecurity expert Andrew Burow. The 56-year-old vanished from an apartment in inner Brisbane on August 24, 2025, with his remains discovered in Maidenwell, north of the city, on September 2, 2025.

The latest suspect, a 44-year-old man from Lake Macdonald, faces multiple charges including torture, deprivation of liberty, and extortion. He was arrested on Friday and is scheduled to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 5, 2026.

Police allege that Mr. Burow was subjected to severe torture at various locations prior to his death. Investigators recovered numerous items from a fire pit on a rural property, including burnt alcohol wipes, zip ties, a mobile phone, and a piece of paper containing details about Mr. Burow’s family.

Three other suspects have already been charged in relation to this case. They include a 26-year-old man from North Lakes, named Billy John Howard, a 38-year-old named Anthony Perrett, and a 57-year-old man, whose identity has not been disclosed. These individuals face charges ranging from murder and kidnapping to extortion and misconduct with a corpse.

The connection between the suspects and Mr. Burow appears to be personal, with police indicating that Howard and Burow knew each other. Perrett, a former delegate of the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU), has drawn scrutiny due to his involvement in an ongoing royal commission. Evidence presented at the inquiry suggested that Perrett engaged in intimidation tactics, including transporting witnesses to interviews fitted with recording devices.

While the royal commission raised serious allegations about Perrett’s conduct, there is currently no indication that the CFMEU is linked to Burow’s murder.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this disturbing case, as they seek to uncover further details regarding the events leading up to Burow’s tragic death. As investigations proceed, the community remains on alert, grappling with the implications of such a violent incident occurring in Brisbane.
