Chargers Secure Teair Tart with Three-Year Extension Worth $37.5 Million

The Los Angeles Chargers have reached a significant agreement with defensive tackle Teair Tart, finalizing a three-year contract extension valued at up to $37.5 million, including $20 million guaranteed. The announcement came on Monday, and Tart expressed his enthusiasm for the deal with a spirited social media post saying, “Bolt Up!”

This move comes after a challenging offseason for the Chargers, particularly following the departure of defensive tackle Poona Ford to the Rams in free agency. The team recognized that their interior defensive line was a noticeable weakness, prompting them to draft rookie Jamaree Caldwell in the third round and sign defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand. Despite these efforts, Tart quickly established himself as a crucial component of the Chargers’ defense, delivering the best season of his career.

Tart’s performance was particularly notable as a run stopper. He consistently disrupted plays, showcasing impressive statistics with 12 run stops, which ranked him seventh in the NFL, according to data from TruMedia. His closest teammate in this category, Caldwell, managed nine stops, highlighting Tart’s standout contributions.

In the playoff match against the New England Patriots, which ended in a 16-3 loss for the Chargers, Tart had a notable impact. He batted a pass that led to a crucial interception by Daiyan Henley, secured his first sack since the 2024 season, and recorded two tackles for loss among his four total tackles.
