Vlahovic Critiques Becic’s Police Comments as Cowardly
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Montenegrin Helsinki Committee, Miodrag Vlahovic, has publicly criticized the statements made by Aleksa Becic, asserting that the latter’s comments regarding police operations in Zeta reflect a lack of accountability. Vlahovic labeled Becic a “coward” following his declaration that there is “no connection with the operational actions of the police in Zeta.”
Vlahovic’s remarks came in response to a statement made by Becic on December 30, 2025. He described the justification provided by Becic as a “definition of the August authorities,” indicating a deep-seated discontent with the current government’s handling of security matters. He criticized the administration for what he sees as ignorance, inconsistency, and a lack of principle in their governance.
Calls for Accountability in Security Leadership
In Vlahovic’s view, such comments should lead to immediate resignation from anyone at the helm of security services in what he termed “any normal country.” His comments highlight the ongoing tensions within Montenegrin politics, where calls for accountability and transparency are increasingly prominent.
“Perhaps it is time for the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) to revive the (suddenly forgotten) initiative for the interpellation of Prime Minister Becic,” Vlahovic suggested. He emphasized that doing so would not undermine Montenegro’s European agenda, which remains a significant focus for the nation as it navigates its path toward greater integration with the European Union.
Vlahovic’s criticisms resonate with a public increasingly concerned about governance and the effectiveness of security measures in Montenegro. The implications of his comments may lead to further discussions surrounding the government’s stability and its approach to law enforcement operations.
The exchange between Vlahovic and Becic underscores the complexities of Montenegrin politics, where statements made by officials are often scrutinized for their truthfulness and the potential impact on public trust. As political discourse intensifies, the response from both the governing party and the opposition will be closely monitored by observers of Montenegrin affairs.
