Thomas Frake Crowned MasterChef Champion as John Torode Bids Farewell
The title of MasterChef Champion of Champions 2025 was awarded to Thomas Frake during a special broadcast on December 29, 2025. This event marked the final appearance of John Torode, who was recently dismissed by the BBC amid allegations of inappropriate language. Torode, 60, hosted the show alongside Grace Dent, as previous champions competed for the prestigious title.
Frake, who originally won MasterChef in 2020, showcased his culinary skills against notable competitors, including Natalie Coleman (2013 winner), Chariya Khattiyot (2023 winner), and Brin Pirathapan (2024 winner). The competition highlighted Frake’s evolution as a chef, with Torode remarking during the judges’ deliberation, “I need to be truthful, that was probably the best food I’ve ever eaten in the history of MasterChef. That was extraordinary.”
In his victory speech, Frake shared his gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This feels amazing. I’m grateful more than anything. MasterChef is what got me onto this journey in the first place.” He added that while his first trophy would remain at home, the new accolade would find a place in his pub.
Torode’s return to the show was met with enthusiasm from fans. Social media users expressed their delight at seeing him back on screen, with one fan posting on X, “Delighted to see John Torode present MasterChef Champions of Champions this evening.” Many viewers noted the strong dynamic between Torode and Dent, suggesting that the decision to let him go was a mistake.
Despite the celebratory atmosphere on the show, Torode’s future remains uncertain. Sources have indicated that his other project, Weekend Kitchen, which he hosts with his wife, Lisa Faulkner, may be put on hold due to budget cuts. An insider commented, “John is facing a nervous wait about Weekend Kitchen, but it’s not looking good. The commissioning team has still not made a decision.”
After his dismissal from the BBC, Torode has been exploring new opportunities, including a cooking show on YouTube, which has received positive feedback. While ITV initially supported him following his exit from MasterChef, the future of his television career hangs in the balance.
As the MasterChef Champion of Champions 2025 episode concluded, viewers were left with a sense of nostalgia, celebrating both Frake’s culinary triumph and Torode’s influential role in the show’s history. The impact of this season will likely resonate with fans and participants alike for years to come.
