Max Verstappen responded with humor to comments made by McLaren CEO Zak Brown, who compared the reigning champion’s tenacity in the current Formula 1 season to a character from a horror movie. As the series heads toward the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen’s victory at the Qatar Grand Prix has intensified the title race, with him now just 12 points behind McLaren’s Lando Norris.

During a media event ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix, Brown remarked on Verstappen’s ability to bounce back in the championship standings, stating, “He’s like that guy in a horror movie, that right as you think he’s not coming back, he’s back!” This analogy prompted Verstappen to jokingly embrace the nickname “Chucky,” referring to the notorious doll from the *Child’s Play* franchise.

Verstappen’s latest win at the Qatar Grand Prix marked his third consecutive victory. The race was pivotal, especially as it followed a strategic miscalculation by McLaren, which chose not to pit its cars during an early safety car period. This decision proved costly, allowing Verstappen to close the gap in the championship standings.

Reflecting on Brown’s comments, Verstappen said, “He can call me Chucky! I thought it was quite funny.” He emphasized the importance of focusing on his own performance rather than engaging in mind games with the McLaren team. “I just focus on myself. I know that when I go in the car, I just try to do the best—like, I guess, everyone does,” he added.

With the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix scheduled for next weekend, Verstappen’s path to securing a fifth world title is straightforward: he must win while ensuring Norris finishes fourth or lower. Discussing his strategy for the final race of the season, Verstappen remarked, “I hope that we start the weekend well. I think on pure pace, it will be tough, but a race like today shows that it’s not always straightforward, and a lot of things can happen.”

As the anticipation builds for the season finale, the dynamics between Verstappen and the McLaren team continue to capture attention. With the championship on the line, the pressure is mounting as Verstappen prepares to make a final push for the title.
