Tuchel Plans Talks with Bellingham Following World Cup Snub

Thomas Tuchel, the head coach of the England national football team, intends to engage in discussions with Jude Bellingham following the midfielder’s absence from the squad that successfully qualified for the 2026 World Cup. Bellingham’s exclusion raised eyebrows after England secured a victory in a recent friendly, earning their spot in the tournament scheduled to take place in North America next summer.
Bellingham, who has been recovering from shoulder surgery, had not yet completed a full 90 minutes when Tuchel finalized his squad. Despite this, the decision to leave out such a notable player was a significant talking point among fans and analysts alike. Tuchel confirmed his plans to communicate with Bellingham before the upcoming matches in November against Italy and Ukraine.
Tuchel Emphasizes Importance of Communication
In a recent statement, Tuchel highlighted Bellingham’s importance to the team. “I guess so. Why not? Of course, he’s an important player, he’s a big player,” Tuchel noted. He expressed his commitment to staying connected with players who were not included in the current camp, emphasizing that their absence was not a punishment. “No one has done anything wrong,” he remarked, underlining the positive approach he is taking towards squad management.
Tuchel further explained, “I feel when I text them and I speak to them, everyone is eager to come back, and this is how it has to be.” The coach also mentioned that several other players, including Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford, who were also absent, deserved to be considered for future selections.
Clarifying Misunderstandings
The conversation around Bellingham’s omission intensified after Tuchel issued an apology for a miscommunication in which he stated in an interview that his mother found the midfielder “repulsive.” Tuchel clarified that there are no issues between him and Bellingham, insisting that the player would embrace his coaching methods if recalled.
“I don’t doubt, if we invite them, then we are sure that they will buy in. Otherwise, we will not invite them. Why would we?”
Tuchel’s confidence in his team extends beyond the current roster. He expressed trust in a wider pool of talent, stating, “We always speak about the same names, but we have injuries.” This approach reflects his determination to build a cohesive and competitive squad, ready for the challenges ahead.
The landscape for the England national team continues to evolve as they prepare for the World Cup. With key players like Bellingham eager to contribute, Tuchel’s upcoming conversations may play a crucial role in shaping the final squad for the tournament.
