QPR Urged to Prioritize Goalkeeper Signing Amid Season Struggles

Queens Park Rangers (QPR) are facing mounting pressure to secure a new goalkeeper as they grapple with inconsistencies this season. Following a disappointing defeat to Wrexham, the team currently sits in 12th place in the Championship, struggling to find their footing. Manager Julien Stephan has not yet settled on a reliable first-choice keeper, with Joe Walsh starting the last four matches while Paul Nardi and Ben Hamer have also received playing time. QPR fan pundit Louis Moir expressed his concerns regarding the lack of new goalkeeper signings. In an interview with Football League World, he stated, “Unfortunately, I can see us waiting until the summer now to get a goalkeeper in. It’s now late on into the window. I can’t see us buying one. Potentially a loan, but I would be surprised at this point.”

Moir further elaborated on the uncertainty surrounding the current keepers, noting that they have all struggled to make a significant impact. “Essentially, you’ve got three goalkeepers at the club who are all quite dodgy, and it’s really affected us this season,” he said.

The Need for Immediate Action

The inconsistency in the goalkeeping department has undoubtedly impacted QPR’s defensive performance, leading to a shaky backline that finds it difficult to maintain focus. Both Blackburn Rovers and Oxford United, teams currently in the Championship relegation zone, have better defensive records than QPR, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue.

If QPR fails to secure a goalkeeper before the transfer window closes, they risk continuing their struggles during the crucial late-season matches. Moir emphasized the importance of securing a new shot-stopper, stating, “It’s a position that needs addressing, but I just think it’s going to be one that might have to be prioritized in the summer.”
