Monteput Reports Record Traffic Volumes in 2025
Montenegro’s road infrastructure has reached a significant milestone, as Monteput announced record traffic volumes for the year 2025. The company reported that over 7.3 million vehicles traveled on the Princess Ksenija Highway and through the Sozina Tunnel. This increase highlights the growing importance of modern road systems for mobility, safety, and economic development in Montenegro.
Traffic Surge on Key Routes
According to Monteput, the section of the Princess Ksenija Highway from Smokovac to Mateševo saw a remarkable total of 3,212,608 vehicles pass through in 2025. This figure marks the highest annual traffic recorded on this route to date. The traffic composition predominantly featured passenger vehicles, with 2.83 million recorded, underscoring the highway’s vital role in supporting both daily commutes and tourism.
In addition to passenger vehicles, the highway also accommodated a significant volume of commercial and public transport vehicles. Monteput noted that a total of 176,460 light commercial vehicles, 121,658 medium commercial vehicles, and 67,430 buses and heavy trucks were registered. These numbers reflect the highway’s crucial function as a conduit for economic activity and public transport.
Sozina Tunnel Maintains High Traffic Levels
The Sozina Tunnel reinforced its status as one of the busiest roadways in Montenegro during the same period. A total of 4,152,305 vehicles transited through the tunnel, with passenger vehicles accounting for the majority at 3.64 million crossings. The data also revealed substantial movement in freight and bus transportation, with 203,741 light commercial vehicles, 137,680 medium commercial vehicles, and 136,055 buses and heavy trucks utilizing the tunnel.
These impressive figures reflect the effectiveness of Montenegro’s transportation infrastructure in facilitating both personal and commercial travel. As the nation continues to develop its roads, the ongoing investment in infrastructure is likely to play a crucial role in supporting economic growth and enhancing connectivity across the region.
Monteput’s results for 2025 not only demonstrate the increasing reliance on these key transport routes but also highlight the importance of maintaining and upgrading infrastructure to meet the demands of a growing economy and population. With traffic volumes on the rise, the focus on road safety and efficiency remains paramount for the future of Montenegro’s transport network.
