Montenegro Hosts Workshop on AI and Workplace Health Challenges
A series of educational workshops aimed at addressing contemporary workplace challenges has been initiated in Montenegro, following the Action Plan for 2025 and the Strategy for Improving Occupational Safety and Health in Montenegro for 2022-2027. The first workshop, titled “Workplace Education – AI in the Context of Occupational Safety and Health and Work-Life Balance,” took place at the offices of Plantaze AD. This initiative was organized by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Dialogue in collaboration with the Trade Union Federation of Montenegro (SSCG).
The primary goal of the workshop was to engage employees in a proactive and innovative manner regarding current topics in occupational health and safety. The event emphasized a two-way communication approach, allowing participants to express their needs and perceptions about workplace safety.
Participants focused on less visible aspects of occupational safety, particularly the mental health of employees, chronic stress, and burnout syndrome. These issues have become increasingly apparent in modern work environments, especially due to the constant use of digital tools and artificial intelligence, which blur the lines between professional and personal life. The workshop highlighted the rising risks of exhaustion and deteriorating health associated with these challenges.
Social dialogue was emphasized as a crucial mechanism for mitigating the negative impacts of algorithmic management. It serves to protect health and safety at work, prevent discrimination, and establish clear criteria for the collection and use of personal data. This dialogue is essential for limiting excessive surveillance of employees and ensuring respect for their privacy.
Additionally, it was stressed that mental health is not solely an individual concern but a prerequisite for a healthy organization and society. Without maintaining individuals’ well-being, sustainable productivity and quality services cannot be achieved.
Danka Cetkovic, a psychologist and HR consultant, addressed the topic “Artificial Intelligence at Work – Ally or Threat to Health and Work-Life Balance?” She pointed out both the potential benefits and risks that AI introduces into the contemporary working environment.
Vladimir Krsmanovic, the coordinator of activities for the Trade Union Federation of Montenegro, provided insights on the role of artificial intelligence in the context of occupational safety and health. He emphasized the need to introduce additional elements into collective bargaining, especially considering the growing implementation of digital technologies and algorithmic management in the workplace.
This workshop marks a significant step towards fostering a culture of safety and well-being in Montenegro’s workforce, highlighting the importance of adapting to new challenges posed by technology while safeguarding employees’ health.
