Kompany Hails Kane as Key Leader Ahead of Crucial Match
Vincent Kompany, the manager of Bayern Munich, has commended striker Harry Kane as an “absolute leader” ahead of their upcoming match against Mainz on December 10, 2023. Kane, who scored a swift hat-trick during last week’s commanding 5-0 victory over Stuttgart, has now accumulated 17 goals in the current league season.
Kane is in his third season with Bayern and has recently been linked to potential transfers, with a reported €65 million release clause in his contract. Despite the speculation, he has not expressed interest in leaving the club. Kompany emphasized Kane’s comfort and leadership at Bayern, stating, “You can tell he feels at ease in Munich, with his family and in this team.”
Kompany highlighted the synergy between Kane and teammate Nicolas Jackson, noting that their collaboration during training has been beneficial. “Harry and Nicolas have a very good relationship in training. They always work on their finishes together. Nicolas keeps making progress because he trains with Harry,” he added.
Bayern Munich remains unbeaten in the league this season, boasting 12 wins and just one draw from their 13 matches. They are expected to secure another three points against a struggling Mainz side, who currently sit at the bottom of the table. However, the match presents a unique challenge as it will be the first for new head coach Urs Fischer, who has recently taken charge of Mainz.
Kompany acknowledged the unpredictability that comes with facing a new coach. “There are always a few question marks when there’s a new coach. You always expect a reaction from the team,” he remarked. He further explained that Bayern is always prepared for tactical shifts from their opponents, saying, “We analyse everything, including how Union played against Bayern; they caused us problems.”
Bayern has a strong historical advantage against Mainz, having won all eight of their last home league games against them. This match will also be significant as it marks Bayern’s final home game of the year in 2025, and Kompany affirmed that his players are entirely focused on the upcoming challenge.
“Everyone’s fit, everyone’s fresh. The players are fully focused. As always, the main thing is the competition,” he said. Kompany also mentioned potential changes to the lineup, allowing players to demonstrate their capabilities. “It’ll be full throttle again from January onwards,” he added, hinting at a busy schedule ahead.
With their eyes set on maintaining their impressive form, Bayern Munich aims to continue their winning streak and solidify their position at the top of the league.
