Albanian Man Arrested in Montenegro on Greek Interpol Warrant

A 48-year-old Albanian citizen was arrested at the Grnčar border crossing in Montenegro while attempting to enter the country. The arrest was made based on an international warrant issued by Greek authorities through Interpol. According to the Montenegrin Police Administration, the individual, identified as A.S., is wanted in Greece for multiple serious criminal offenses.

Montenegro’s border police detained A.S. on October 24, 2023, during routine checks at the crossing point. Following a verification process in coordination with the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol in Podgorica, authorities confirmed that A.S. was subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the NCB of Interpol in Athens.

A.S. is sought by Greek law enforcement for a criminal case currently pending before the Appellate Court in Larissa. He is accused of serious crimes, including attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and armed robbery with accomplices. In Greece, these offenses carry potential prison sentences of up to 30 years.

The Montenegrin Police Administration stated that proper communication occurred between the NCB in Podgorica and Athens, confirming A.S.’s identity. Following the arrest, he was handed over to a judge at the Higher Court in Bijelo Polje for further proceedings regarding his extradition.

This case highlights the ongoing cooperation between law enforcement agencies across Europe in tackling serious criminal activities, ensuring that individuals facing serious charges are brought to justice. A.S.’s extradition process will now follow the legal protocols established for such cases, as authorities work to address the charges against him in Greece.
