University of Warwick Launches £6 Million Revamp of Vanguard Centre
A significant transformation is underway at the University of Warwick as it embarks on a £6 million project to revamp the Vanguard Centre. This initiative aims to create a state-of-the-art innovation hub designed to foster research and development in the West Midlands.
The upgraded facility will provide a substantial **13,600 square feet** of laboratory space and **8,000 square feet** of office space, meeting the growing demand for modern R&D environments. This new building will feature contemporary meeting rooms and collaborative workspaces, all designed with a focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Emma Turner, Business Development Manager at the University of Warwick, highlighted the pressing need for laboratory space in the region. “The availability of lab space within the region is a challenge for many businesses needing to find suitable premises,” she noted. “It is at a significant premium due to lack of supply in areas of high demand.” Turner expressed confidence that the Vanguard Centre will serve as an ideal base for companies seeking modern facilities at competitive prices.
The project is not only about expanding physical space but also about implementing advanced sustainable technologies. The Vanguard Centre will include electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, electric-only systems, and aims to achieve high ratings in both Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and BREEAM assessments. These features reflect a commitment to creating an environmentally conscious workspace.
Leading the construction efforts is the firm DENTON, which is set to complete the project by mid-2026. Rob Carr, Head of Construction at DENTON, emphasized the importance of the Vanguard Centre in supporting life science companies. “We know what it takes to create environments where specialist organisations can thrive,” Carr stated. “We are excited to bring the vision for the Vanguard Centre to life and create a building the Midlands can be proud of.”
As the project progresses, the University of Warwick anticipates that the strategic location and modern facilities of the Vanguard Centre will attract a diverse range of businesses. Companies interested in leasing space at this innovative hub can reach out to Giles Garbutt at Carter Jonas via email at [email protected].
This transformation of the Vanguard Centre represents a crucial step in addressing the growing needs of businesses in the region, enhancing the West Midlands’ reputation as a center for innovation and research.
