Shoppers on Alert as Amazon Prepares for Prime Big Deal Days

Amazon shoppers are urged to take precautions as the highly anticipated Prime Big Deal Days event approaches on October 8, 2025. This annual sale promises significant discounts on a wide range of products, including televisions, smartphones, tablets, and Kindles. However, cybersecurity experts are warning consumers about the potential for online fraud during this shopping period.
As bargains become available, the appeal of these deals has attracted the attention of cybercriminals. According to research by cybersecurity firm Check Point, more than 700 new domains linked to Amazon have been registered recently, indicating that digital thieves are gearing up for potential attacks. Alarmingly, one in every 18 of these domains is flagged as malicious or suspicious, and one in every 36 specifically includes the term “Amazon Prime.”
Shoppers planning to take advantage of the discounts should be vigilant for common warning signs. Phishing attempts may manifest as emails claiming that an Amazon payment has failed or notifications indicating that a Prime membership has been suspended. These scams often aim to trick users into providing sensitive information, such as passwords and credit card details.
“Amazon Prime Day 2025 brings deals, but also danger,” Check Point stated. “Cybercriminals are launching phishing campaigns and fake domains to trick shoppers. By staying alert, following best practices, and verifying every link or email before clicking, you can reduce your risk and enjoy shopping safely during Amazon Prime Day 2025.”
Key Precautions for Shoppers
To help mitigate the risk of falling victim to online fraud, experts recommend several precautionary measures:
– **Double-check domains**: Only trust official sites like Amazon.com to avoid counterfeit websites.
– **Avoid email/PDF links**: Navigate directly to Amazon through your browser rather than clicking on links in emails.
– **Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA)**: Adding this layer of security to your Amazon account can help protect against unauthorized access.
– **Use layered protection**: Implement comprehensive security measures across email, browsers, devices, and networks to reduce exposure to threats.
– **Scrutinise content**: Examine URLs, attachments, and text in unexpected emails or messages for signs of phishing attempts.
In addition to online shopping risks, consumers in the UK are advised to remain cautious while dining out, as scammers are reportedly tampering with self-ordering QR codes placed on tables. These seemingly innocuous black and white squares can be easily replaced with fraudulent versions, allowing criminals to steal bank details from unsuspecting victims.
As the shopping event approaches, the message for consumers is clear: enjoy the upcoming sale, but stay alert to potential scams and protect your personal information. By exercising caution and following expert advice, shoppers can navigate the deals safely during this busy shopping season.
