Lego Unveils SMART Brick, Revolutionizing Play with Tech

Lego has introduced a groundbreaking technology called the SMART Brick during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 5, 2024. This innovative device integrates physical and digital play, transforming how users interact with their Lego sets. Developed by the Lego Group’s Creative Play Lab, the SMART Brick features a compact processor housed within a plastic shell, enhancing play experiences significantly.

Upon connecting the SMART Brick to the new SMART Tag and the Lego SMART Minifigure, users will enjoy added speakers and lights that animate their builds. The brick’s built-in sensors respond to actions, triggering appropriate sounds and behaviours, which adds a layer of interactivity not previously seen in Lego products. Importantly, the SMART Brick operates independently of smartphones or tablets, though it requires periodic charging.

The first Lego sets to incorporate this innovative SMART play platform will be part of the upcoming Lego Star Wars collection. These sets are set to launch on March 1, 2026, with prices starting at under £60. This move signifies Lego’s commitment to enhancing children’s playtime through technology, blending traditional building with modern interactive elements.
