The Israeli authorities plan to deport approximately 170 flotilla activists on March 4, 2024, according to statements from the legal organization Adalah. This announcement follows the recent deportation of an equal number of activists over the past two days, with most being sent to Istanbul and smaller groups to Italy and Spain.

The Israel Prison Service has communicated its intentions to Adalah’s legal team, which represents the affected individuals. In a statement, Adalah reported that during their initial days of detention, the activists experienced “widespread assaults and violence.” Despite these allegations, the organization noted that the current conditions for the detainees are “relatively stable.” Nonetheless, there remain serious concerns regarding the health of those engaging in hunger strikes and issues related to the provision of adequate medical care.

Access to the detainees has been a significant point of contention. Adalah’s attorneys reported being “denied access to all participants” during their visits to the prison. They could only meet for 30 minutes with the eleven Tunisian participants, highlighting ongoing challenges faced by legal representatives in securing the rights of those detained.

As the situation evolves, the international community is closely monitoring the treatment of the activists and the legal proceedings surrounding their deportation. Adalah continues to advocate for the rights of these individuals, emphasizing the need for transparency and humane treatment during the deportation process.
