Adeleke Pledges Victory Over APC’s Oyebamiji in 2026 Election
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared his intention to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Oyebamiji, in the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for August 8, 2026. During a recent response to statements made by his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, Adeleke expressed confidence, stating, “I will beat Oyebamiji by the might of God and the people.” His remarks come amid tensions within the political landscape of Osun, where the APC is seeking to regain control.
In a critical assessment of Oyetola’s tenure, Adeleke characterized it as a period marked by “anti-people” policies and a significant decline in the welfare of Osun citizens. He referred to Oyetola’s administration as a “dark page” in the state’s history, highlighting the challenges he faced upon taking office in 2022. “The people of Osun do not wish to return to the era of hardship and neglect,” he emphasized, referring to the twelve years of APC governance as a time both labor groups and citizens aim to avoid repeating.
Adeleke’s administration has claimed to prioritize the needs of the populace, focusing on areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education. He pointed out that the current government has been recognized for its efforts, recently winning an award for leadership in primary healthcare in the South West region. “Osun citizens are enjoying a government that prioritizes workers’ welfare and inclusive development,” he stated.
The governor criticized the APC for employing what he termed “anti-democratic activities” rather than engaging with voters through legitimate means. He questioned, “If you are sure you have the votes of the people, why are you deploying anti-democratic means to stop the unstoppable will of our people?” This comment underscores the heightened political rivalry as the election approaches.
Adeleke further asserted that the electorate is aware that voting for the APC would mean a regression to past failures, which he argues the people of Osun are unwilling to accept. He urged citizens to remain vigilant against political propaganda and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering democratic dividends that genuinely benefit the community.
As the political landscape in Osun continues to evolve, Adeleke remains optimistic about his re-election prospects. He expressed confidence that the support of the people will solidify his position as a leader dedicated to their welfare, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle ahead.
