Vukovic Demands Urgent Clarification from State Prosecutor’s Office

Ivan Vukovic, the Deputy President of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and a member of the Montenegro Assembly, has called for an urgent response from the State Prosecutor’s Office regarding accusations made by former Special State Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic. Vukovic expressed his concern over media reports alleging that Special Prosecutor Miloš Šoškić attempted to fabricate charges against him as part of an organized crime group.

Vukovic stated that while he acknowledges the reality of political life in Montenegro, where public accusations can occur without legal repercussions, he was taken aback by the specific allegations. He emphasized the need for immediate clarification from Šoškić and the State Prosecutor’s Office.

Claims of False Allegations

In a statement, Vukovic noted that similar accusations had been made against him previously, leading him to file a criminal complaint for false reporting against a member of the Montenegro Assembly. He highlighted that the contract referenced in the accusations, concerning road construction, was signed by the Cetinje municipality and the Ministry of Defense on July 12, 2017 (number 01-031/17-736). Vukovic pointed out that he was not politically active at the time, having spent much of that year in the United States for postdoctoral studies.

He further remarked on the bizarre nature of the political climate in Montenegro over the past five years, where he suggested that the atmosphere has allowed for strange and unfounded allegations to circulate, likening it to “time travel.”

Vukovic was elected as the Mayor of Podgorica one year later, on July 31, 2018.
