Prince Andrew Seeks Move to Frogmore Cottage Amid Royal Changes
Prince Andrew has reportedly expressed interest in relocating to Frogmore Cottage, the former residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as he navigates potential changes to his living arrangements. Following concerns about his current home at Royal Lodge, the 65-year-old royal seeks to move to the Windsor estate, according to The Sun. This development comes amidst ongoing discussions with officials at Buckingham Palace regarding his past associations, particularly his friendship with convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein.
A Look at Frogmore Cottage’s Legacy
Originally built in 1860, Frogmore Cottage has a rich history. It served as a retreat for Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of King George III, and was later transformed into a home for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. After receiving the property from the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2018, Harry and Meghan undertook extensive renovations costing approximately £2.4 million, reducing the number of bedrooms from ten to five.
This Grade-II listed building is nestled within Windsor Great Park and has been described as a tranquil haven. The couple welcomed their children, Archie Harrison, now 6, and Lilibet Diana, now 4, in this picturesque setting before their relocation to Montecito, California, in 2020.
The cottage gained further attention following its appearance in the couple’s Netflix series, showcasing its charming interiors, including a spacious country-style kitchen and a nursery. The decor features vibrant colors and intricate patterns, reflecting the couple’s personal style.
Frogmore’s Gardens and Surroundings
The exterior of Frogmore Cottage is equally captivating, surrounded by meticulously maintained gardens filled with flowers and trees, providing privacy for its residents. A notable feature is a wooden arbour seat, described by visitors during rare open days to the estate. The gardens also hold personal significance, with tributes like a dog statue honoring family memories.
Situated near a large lake and the historic Frogmore House, where Harry and Meghan celebrated their wedding reception in May 2018, the cottage offers stunning views and a serene environment. In his memoir, Spare, Harry expressed a deep affection for the home, stating, “We loved that place. From the first minute. It felt as if we were destined to live there.”
The ongoing discussions regarding Prince Andrew’s potential move to Frogmore Cottage reflect not only the changing dynamics within the royal family but also the enduring significance of this historic residence. As the situation evolves, the future of both Frogmore Cottage and its prospective residents remains closely watched by royal observers and the public alike.
