Recent research indicates that between 37% and 38% of Montenegrin citizens enjoy a state of prosperity, as they possess a second property, savings, or investments. This finding comes from a study conducted by the agency Spektrum Analitika, which was presented on October 3, 2023, by researcher Miloš Bešić during a segment on the national broadcaster TVCG.

Besić explained that the prosperity index for Montenegro stands at 38%, reflecting the percentage of respondents who confirmed ownership of alternative assets. More detailed findings reveal that 18.1% of citizens own a second property, while 27.7% reported having savings. Additionally, 8.4% of the population holds some form of investment. Besić concluded that a significant portion of the population lives in a state of prosperity.

In contrast, the social vulnerability index in Montenegro is reported to be between 17% and 18%. This figure is derived from data indicating that around 18% of respondents need to incur debt to cover their basic living expenses. The study also found that 6.4% of citizens rent their homes. Notably, 30.3% of those surveyed stated they can comfortably afford meals at restaurants or short trips.

Besić remarked on the resilience of the population, stating, “We again approach a third of the respondents in this metric.” He noted that 9.4% of respondents indicated they could survive for a year without a salary, suggesting that approximately 10% of Montenegro’s population lives in general prosperity.

When asked about their overall living conditions, over half of Montenegrins, specifically 51.6%, reported they live well. Meanwhile, 39.8% indicated they manage to get by, while 8.6% described their lives as difficult. Furthermore, 18.3% of participants acknowledged that their circumstances have improved.

This comprehensive analysis sheds light on the economic landscape in Montenegro, revealing a significant disparity between those who thrive and those who experience hardship. The findings suggest that while a notable segment of the population enjoys financial stability, challenges remain for a considerable number of citizens.
